I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read, and all the friends I want to see.

Kai's Version of "Gwiyomi"

Due to public demand..i mean, my one friend's demand. haha :))
Please excuse my ewwness. :p Enjoy!

Gwiyomi

The first time I heard that (gwiyomi) word, I was completely clueless as to what it means (even until now..lol). Oh, and so I used the most powerful search engine to find its meaning, and finally I have found it, just now also (silly me). It means:

      cute/cutie. ^_^

Having said that, why the heck did I made this video? o.O I am not that cute to even qualify for this. LOL. But that is not what my friend Guada thinks. She says I am better than anyone else's gwiyomi. Wow. She is such a friend. haha :)) That is the main reason why I made this vid. Only because she insisted. Nothing more, nothing less. :p Then I thought, why not give it a try ei? I think it turned out pretty good. ;D

And so, I watched two to three gwiyomi vids on YouTube, and learned some of the movements that night. The day after, I got two takes on gwiyomi using my iPod Touch. The first one was kinda alright, but the second one was much better. It was kinda boring watching it so I decided to download a video editor application. Luckily, I found a one great app- GameUrVideo App. I was then satisfied after some editing. I uploaded it right away on my Facebook page. :) Also uploaded it on YouTube since Guada again, wanted to publish it in her site (which I am not aware of). :p

So there you have it. Hope you had fun watching it! :D

Social Media Influencers Summit 2013: Trending Forwad

Wow – is the very first thing I can say. It’s been ages since my last blog post (2 years and 8 months to be exact). I've been gone from the blogosphere for too long that I’m not sure if I still know how to blog. But I know this is something that I couldn't get rid out of my system. Blogging will always be a part of me. I will always be a blogger at heart. A Cebu Blogger for that matter. I missed so many great things to share in the cyberworld. I've been gone, but I’m back now. So, wanna know what urged me to come back and make this post?

Just as I thought that I’m no longer part of the blogging industry, I received an invitation to the Social Media Influencers Summit (SMIS) 2013 by an old friend of mine, my former co-CBS blogger, the President of Cebu Bloggers Society, Inc. , and the Lead Organizer of the said event, Mr. Ruben B. Licera, Jr. It was not just a simple invitation but by Premium Invitation. I was invited as one of their Blogger Partner which means I have a complimentary premium participant ticket to the event. :) I was really overwhelmed. Now, who doesn’t want to respond to that? Lol.

The Social Media Influencers Summit (SMIS) 2013 will be the very first and will eventually become an annual event. This is organized by iNewMedia Online in cooperation with Cebu Bloggers Society, Inc. (CBSi). The event was set on March 16, 2013 at J Center Convention Hall, J Center Mall in Mandaue City, Cebu. Prominent social media personalities and thought leaders will be the resource persons of this event. They are expecting to bring together more than 300 social media influencers and users to share best practices from top industry leaders, set ethics and standards for users, and promote social media responsibility.

This year’s theme is: “#TrendingForward”. It is the summation of two words “Trending” + “Forward”. “Trending” means “the general direction in which something tends to move.” Each individual or company may have separate goals, but the ultimate goal of any “Social Media Influencer” is to create a buzz for its cause to make it appear on the “trending” topics of the social media networks. “Forward” is being used to depict the innovation/presentation that each social media influencer should do to reach and influence the target audience. Buzz is not created by all. It is practiced by those who had mastered it. And this craft is fast changing with the dynamic preference and attitudes of the social media users.

Main Organizers - iNewMedia Online Network

Co-Organizer - Cebu Bloggers Society Inc.

Beneficiaries – Proceeds of this event will benefit:

List of Speakers with Maria A. Ressa as the Keynote Speaker.

See here for the full list of confirmed sponsors.

Another reason why i want to go to this event is because, i miss my CBSi family. Many of them are going so it's a great opportunity for me to see them again after 3 long years. :)

This is gonna be big, I must say. So what are you waiting for? Register now and see you there! :)

Kraft Cheez Whiz Palamantasan in Lapu-lapu Central Elementary School Cebu

July is the month of nutrition. In line with this, Kraft Cheez Whiz, one of the most-loved cheese brands in the country in partnership with the Department of Education has come up with Palamantasan-the first interschool competition among grade school students nationwide in a quest for nutrition education for the schoolchildren to learn. To teach them is already something. But to revolutionize it into a nationwide interschool competition for them to learn is something else.

Last Saturday, July 17, 2010, Lapu-lapu Central Elementary School was one of the many schools to compete. Winners from this eliminations will go to the Regional eliminations, and succeedingly to the National Finals. Kraft Cheez Whiz
chose to do a school-based program to further raise public consciousness. Alex Dan Tacderas, Category Manager for Cheese and Spoonables, Kraft Foods Philippines shares, "School is second to home where children learn basic lessons and values, that is why we wanted to direct our cause and execute our program in schools–in both an enjoyable and educational way."

Also, Tacderas shared a story about
'One can make a difference'. The story goes like this.
There was a young man walking on the shore one day and as he walked, he saw many starfishes drifted into the shore. He was walking until he saw a young boy throwing the starfishes back into the sea. The young man approached the boy and asked, "What are you doing?". The young boy replied, "I'm trying to save the starfishes so I'm throwing them back to the sea". The young man laughed and said, "You're just wasting your time, nothing can make a difference". But the young boy ignored the young man and still continued to throw the starfishes back. He held one starfish, threw it into the sea and said, "There, I made a difference".
Each one of us can make a difference indeed. Simple actions can change the world. Just for an instance, eating healthy foods for proper nutrition can draw many to do the same.

I remember how we celebrated Nutrition month during my elementary years. Parade of fruits and vegetables with the drum and buggle corps is always there. We had singing competition, declamation, essay writing contest, poster-making contest, and cooking competition related to proper nutrition. I used to be good at declamation so luckily I won. There are only three words that comes into my mind whenever I hear the words Nutrition month, and that is Go, Grow, and Glow.

During Cheez Whiz Palamantasan ng Sarap, they have also conducted contests
in line with the National Nutrition Month’s Celebration. These contests include Cheez Whiz Cheering Competition which each team’s presentation must include the Cheez Whiz lyrics that can be used as a cheer or chant, the On-The-Spot Essay Writing Contest in which essays must be in English and would revolve in the question: Anu-ano ang natutunan mo tungkol sa palaman at nutrisyon?”, the Sabayang Bigkas in which all the members of the group must memorize their given piece in not more than 20 minutes presentation, the Sandwich Art which is making sandwiches in its artistic way by the use of Kraft Cheez Whiz, and the Jarchitecture Contest in which the art work must portray the theme: “Good Nutrition”.

Winners of the said contests are as follows:

Over the years, educating children about proper nutrition has been one of the primary advocacies of many institutions. Palamantasan revolutionizes the learning experience of school children in corporate-sponsored nutrition education.

To know more about this, you can Join Palamantasan and make a pledge. With Palamantasan as a promising project to help children become healthier in more ways than one, the country is continuously given the hope of a better and brighter future.

Tim Flach: Going Bats

Photographs by Tim Flach

Bats are among the least anthropomorphised of creatures. Disney brought us a smiling mouse, T.S. Eliot humanised his cats and the British children's TV show "Fingerbobs" even created a friendly scampi. But where are the cute bats? Bats that don't suck blood or get tangled in people's hair and don't embody the Gothic horrors of the night? Bats we can identify with?

Philosopher Thomas Nagel summed up our attitude when he wrote, "Anyone who has spent time in an enclosed space with an excited bat knows what it is to encounter a fundamentally alien form of life."

Yet Tim Flach's photographs make you wonder why humans have been so unwilling to see their own natures reflected in these mammals. Turn his portraits upside down and suddenly you see bats in a new light. As they pose, they look oddly like us.

Topsy-turvy world - Turn a photo of an Australian fruit bat upside
down and it appears to walk like a human
And indeed they are. Bats breastfeed their young, can live for more than 30 years and have wings anatomically equivalent to human hand.

Cheryce Kramer, a cultural historian working with Flach on a book about how we perceive bats, argues that it's their human qualities that make us react as we do.

HUMAN QUALITIES - "I originally intended to do shots of flying bats,"
recalls photographer Tim Flach. "Then I noticed them chatting among
themselves on a branch. They were communicating something, and
I realized that this was what I should be shooting
"

"Those who have looked closely at bats have seen the anthrophomorphic qualities. In the Linnean system of classifying life forms, bats are grouped with primates and humans. The similarities are precisely why we find them so eerie."

Early naturalists were not particularly interested in bats. It was only in the 1930s, when US military scientists began to see them as intriguing machines, that bats underwent an image shift. In 1938 teams developing radar technology recorded bat calls -- pitched beyond the range of the human ear. To prevent confusion when flying in swarms of hundreds of thousands, each bat uses a different frequency so it can distinguish its own echo and avoid becoming disoriented.

At about this time Batman, a comic-book vigilante using scientific knowledge as a weapon, appeared. "The bat was reinterpreted through science," says Kramer.

RELATIONSHIPS - Like humans, many bats pair for life
and most species have only one offspring a year

During World War II, a bizarre study moved things on. In Project X-rays, the US Navy tried to see if incendiary devices attached to Mexican bats could be used to attack German and Japanese cities.

It involved releasing the animals from planes in huge numbers just before dawn. As daylight approached, the bats would look for somewhere to roost - probably crevices under the enemy's rafters. The explosive backpacks would detonate, incinerating the animals and large numbers of civilians. Tests were carried out, but the success of research into the atomic bomb meant the study was abandoned.

Sinister as it was, Project X-ray added greatly to our knowledge of bats. It also led to a further revision of their image. In Britain, bats are now a protected species, and David Attenborough has appeared on television knee-deep in bat guano.

For most people, however, bats still mean Count Dracula and utter panic if one flies into the bedroom (Britain even has a national helpline for those who find themselves in this position). But stare into the faces in Flach's photographs and you begin to feel the daylight of recognition putting the vampire to flight.

Never on Facebook, dear

There are some crazy activities you should never do on Facebook. Here are some of them.

Password so easy. The most obvious is using a weak password. Avoid simple names or words, even with numbers tacked on the end. When you signed in for an account, you might remember being graded as "weak", meaning your password was too easy to identify.
Facebook suggests that you mix upper- and lower- case letters, numbers, and even symbols and it should have at least eight characters. For example, if your password is periwinkle, insert "smoke screens", such as pE3ri7w00i&nKxle. Now, the problem is remembering that! Here are other things to remember:

Use privacy controls. For everything in your Facebook profile, you can limit access to only your friends, friends of friends, or yourself. Restrict access to photos, birth date, religious views, family data, etc. Don't put out contact info, and address.

Be careful with captions. Don't use your child's name in captions or photo tags. If someone else does, delete it by clicking on Remove Tag.

Don't post 'on vacation'. Saying you'll be away from home is like putting a "no one's home" sign on your door. Just take that vacation. Wait until you get home to tell your friends about that trip.

No to strangers. To help prevent strangers from accessing your page, go to the Search section of Facebook's privacy controls and select Only Friends for Facebook search results.

Supervise kids. The youngest age allowed by Facebook is 13. If you have a child using Facebook, the best way to provide friendly supervision is to become his online pal. Use your e-mail address as the contact for their account.

Enjoy Facebooking! :)

5 Foods You Should Eat Everyday

Eating right on a budget can be a challenge, but it's certainly not impossible. Consider this your cheat sheet to the 5 inexpensive foods you should eat everyday for optimum health.

1. Leafy greens
Medical experts call them one of nature's miracle foods. Leafy greens like Swiss chard and kale are high in nutrients like folate and vitamins A and C that can lower your risk of cancer. Just one cup of dark, leafy greens a day could also prevent diabetes and high blood pressure.

2. Nuts
Many nutritionists recommend nuts like almonds, cashews and walnuts because they're high in natural fiber. Fiber slows your digestive process, keeping hunger and unhealthy mid-afternoon snacks at bay. Goodbye vending machine runs!

3. Onions
Studies show that consuming onions on a regular basis may reduce symptoms of asthma and the risk of developing stomach cancer. Add them to soups and stir-fry, and just remember -- the stronger the onion, the greater the health benefit.

4. Whole grains
Refined grains, like white rice and pasta, have lost 90% of their nutritional value through the refining process. As if that weren't reason enough to choose whole grains like brown rice, quinoa and whole oats, a recent study showed that a diet rich in whole grains actually flattens your belly by reducing fat storage in your lower abdominal region.

5. Yogurt
Making yogurt part of your daily eating routine can improve your digestion -- if you're buying the right stuff. Check that the label lists "active cultures" to make sure you're getting healthy probiotics, and pick a yogurt rich in vitamin D to prevent osteoporosis.

Who Says All Wild Animal Creatures can be Trained?

Well guess again.

MIAMI (AFP) - – A five-tonne killer whale drowned its trainer on Wednesday in front of horrified onlookers at Florida's SeaWorld entertainment park, police and the park's manager said.

Witnesses said the whale -- involved in two other human fatalities in the past -- leapt out of its tank to grab the 40-year-old trainer during a noontime show, then dragged her into the water to her death.

SeaWorld executive Chuck Tompkins confirmed that the black-and-white bull orca, named Tilikum, dragged trainer Dawn Brancheau into the water, the Orlando Sentinel newspaper reported.

"We're in the process of investigating all of the people and the animals,"
Tompkins said.

"One of our most experienced animal trainers drowned in an incident with one of our killer whales this afternoon," added Dan Brown, general manager at the Orlando, Florida entertainment park.

"This is an extraordinarily difficult time for the SeaWorld parks."

Jim Solomons of the Orange County Sheriff's office earlier said Brancheau died after slipping into the tank.

"She apparently slipped or fell ... and was fatally injured by one of the whales," he said. "This appears to be an accidental death, it's a tragic death."

Tilikum, whose name means "friend" in the Chinook Jargon language spoken among native Americans in the Pacific Northwest, is among the killer whales, dolphins and seals whose shows have made SeaWorld popular.

But he has been involved in previous human deaths, including in 1991 when a part-time trainer at the Sealand of the Pacific facility in Canada was killed in his tank, according to the Humane Society of the United States.

In 1999, after being shipped from Canada to Orlando, the whale was blamed for the death of a man who had apparently stayed in SeaWorld after closing.

The Humane Society said the man jumped into Tilikum's tank and was found dead the next morning, his naked body covered in scratches that suggested he had been dragged around the bottom and sides of the tank.

A witness told CNN that Tilikum attacked the trainer as she showed him off to park visitors following the Dine with Shamu show.

"He just took off like a bat out of you know what, took off really fast and came back around to the glass, jumped up, and grabbed the trainer by the waist and started shaking her violently," witness Victoria Biniak said.

"The sirens were going off. People were running out. I've never seen so many SeaWorld employees come out of the woodwork."

Another witness told CNN that the whales in the tank had begun ignoring the trainers.

"We could tell this whale was not in a good mood at all. We literally could tell it was not cooperating," said the unnamed witness.

Though killer whales, also known as orcas, are a common attraction at entertainment parks, they are known for aggressive "play" and behavior in the wild, including batting seals or dolphins back and forth.

They are huge creatures -- Tilikum weighs at least 11,000 pounds (five tonnes) -- and "are among the most curious of all whales, with a great tendency to 'play' and to manipulate objects," says SeaWorld's website.

Tilikum was captured in November 1983 off the coast of Iceland and is one of several killer whales on display at the Orlando park, which was partially closed down after the trainer's death.

SeaWorld's website said its shows involving killer whales in Orlando and in San Diego, California, have been suspended.

Animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals released a statement saying the death was a "tragedy that didn't have to happen."

"For years, PETA has been calling on SeaWorld to stop confining oceangoing mammals to an area that to them is like the size of a bathtub, and we have also been asking the park to stop forcing the animals to perform silly tricks over and over again," it said.
